It’s a well known fact that being a young person is hard! You’re not a child or adult. Young people who are working with support services (or support services are trying to engage with them!) rarely have the stability or support networks that most take for granted. Even if they do have some type of support network they may be feeling that no-one understands ‘them’. Some Young People may have had a chaotic childhood leading them to becoming a chaotic young person.
Often we find that these young people have low aspirations, little belief in themselves and an inability to communicate their feelings.
For young people without a safety net of a loving family, or young people without the ability to recognise their safety net every poor decision can have serious consequences. This is where good services can make all the difference. If we can engage a young person effectively evidence has shown that these teenage years can set the scene for their whole adult journey.
To engage really well with young people it takes a special type of person. A unique skill set, the ability to understand and emphasise with their daily struggles. This course will take you through the journey of being a young person, look at the common issues that shape their lives and teach you the skills to engage with the most disengaged young person.
This is why every single person working with Young People goes the extra mile to make the difference.
